Biography Li Ge graduated from Jilin University, 2009 and Shandong University, 2012 respectively for BSc and MSc majoring in Geotechnical Engineering. He commenced my PhD in November 2012 working with Prof. Jin Y. Ooi in the group of Granular Mechanics and Industrial Infrastructure at the University of Edinburgh. Li Ge completed his PhD “Particle breakage mechanics in milling operation” in October 2016 under the co-supervision of Prof. Jian Fei Chen, Dr. Ian Butler and Dr. Jin Sun, as well as industrial partner Hosokawa Micron Ltd.
His PhD is part of the project entitled "Milling and Material Grindability: measuring, modelling and fingerprinting" supported by International Fine Particle Research Institute (IFPRI). Li Ge's project spans a wide spectrum to investigate the particle breakage mechanics in milling operation through a hybrid of experimental, numerical and theoretical avenues.
Research I joined the Particle Technology Group at the University of Sheffield in 2017 as research associate, working with Prof. Jim Litster. I am currently working on the project of Models for manufacturing of particulate products, in collaboration with CPI (Centre for Process Innovation), The University of Edinburgh, AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Procter and Gamble, Johnson Matthey, EDEM, and PSE (Process System Enterprise). The main thrust of this project is to develop a coupling framework between DEM (Discrete element method) and PBM (population balance modelling) to better predict the wet granulation process in continuous manufacturing. In 2019 I began a KTP role with PSE, based in London.
